University Sport New Zealand (USNZ) is the National Sporting Organisation for tertiary sport in New Zealand. Working closely with its member Students' Associations and the National Sporting Organisations, USNZ provides National and International inter-university sporting competitions, including the annual Uni Games, Uni Snow Games, National University Championships and the prestigious University Blues Awards.

USNZ is the sole sanctioning body for New Zealand teams attending FISU (International University Sports Federation) eventsincluding various sporting World University Championships, the World University Games, The World Winter University Games.

UNI GAMES COMING SOON 21 - 24 APRIL 2013

The Otago University Students’ Association will lead the management of the University Sport New Zealand University Games 2013 to be held in Dunedin between April 22 – 24 2013.

“The University Games 2013 will be a back to basics sports focused event”, said OUSA Recreation Officer and Chair of the Otago Uni Games Organising Committee, Blake Luff.

“We’ve got great support from sports faculties at the University and the Polytechnic along with the University’s Unipol Recreation Services and the OUSA Recreation Centre. In addition the Dunedin City Council will support the event.” The Event Manager will be Otago Polytechnic Senior Lecturer Geoff Simons. Mr. Simons performed this role for the previous two successful University Gamesevents in Dunedin and has been the Sport Liaison Coordinator for the NZ Masters Games for the last three times in Dunedin. “The Uni Games will see a testing competition and it’s a good chance to meet students from around the country.” Said Luff, “We’re all looking forward to having a bit of fun to help recharge the academic batteries!”

University Sport New Zealand calls for applications for the

3rd FISU Gender Equality Sport Awards 2013

University Sport New Zealand (USNZ) is proud to announce the call for applications for the 3rd FISU Gender Equality Sport Awards.  The awards will be presented during the General Assembly at the 27th Summer Universaide 2013 in Kazan, Russian Federation. The FISU Gender Equality Committee’s vision of this award is to promote and encourage the higher integration of women in sport at all levels.

These International Awards focus on two categories relevant to the University Sport environment:

  1. Best individual female, university athlete
  2. Special projects: specific projects that promote women’s participation in university sports, women’s leadership development in sports organisations or Ph.D/ Investigation project.

Each Sport Award provides a grant of €6,000 (approx. $9,500 NZ) which must be allocated to the development of the awarded project.

Projects must have been running throughout 2012 and/or 2013.Consideration will be given to projects that are either regional, national or implemented in only one university or higher educational institution.

USNZ will review the applications to select the three best projects to submit to FISU as only three applications can be submitted per country. For  further information on the guidelines please contact to Cathy Robinson at boardchair@universitysport.org.nz

 

 

 

The New Zealand University Blue is one of New Zealand’s most prestigious and long standing awards (awarded since 1919) that recognises a University student’s performance in representing New Zealand in their sport whilst successfully progressing their academic studies. A total of 67 outstanding athletes, including 2012 Olympians, will be honoured at this year’s awards dinner.

The dinner, brought to you by University Sport New Zealand in association with Massey University, will take place on Thursday 6 December.to be held at the prestigious Museum Building on Massey University’s Wellington campus.
Pre dinner drinks commence from 5.30pm with guests seated from 6.15pm.

Tickets are priced at $100 or a table of ten is $900. Booking a table is an enjoyable way of sharing this evening with family and friends, colleagues and associates.

A wonderful evening is assured in what has been an outstanding year for New Zealand sport. We do hope that you are able to join us at the dinner.
