World University Championships (WUCs) are organised by FISU and take place every 2 years in ‘even’ years - 2004, 2006, 2008 etc.
WUCs are single sport events that are hosted by different nations throughout the course of the year. In 2006 there are 28 WUCs being staged and it is likely that New Zealand will be represented at 6 of these - Beach Volleyball, Rowing, Golf, Karate, Water Skiing & Triathlon.
WUCs are elite level events with many being close in standard to either full or U23 World Championships.
Only USNZ can sanction teams and individuals to represent New Zealand at WUCs.

In 2002, FISU organised 24 WUCs that attracted 4,228 participants from 83 countries. In 2004 there were 26 WUCs with over 5,500 participants. New Zealand competed in 9 WUCs in 2004.
