This past Friday, the 1st of July 2011, University Sport New Zealand successfully hosted the 92nd Blues Awards at the Intercontinental Hotel in Wellington. The awards ceremony recognized the sporting and academic achievements of sixty-nine blues recipients, with 14 of those recipients in attendance to accept their awards.

The master of ceremonies, Glen Stuart from ZM, kept the evening moving while Grant Sullivan and the Vaughn Roberts Quartet provided the entertainment for the evening. The evening’s guest speaker, previous blues recipient Barry Maister captivated the audience with his inspirational speech about his sporting endeavors over the years.
The major award winners of the evening included: Gabe Young (University of Waikato) for Distinguished Performance Award, Andrea Anacan (University of Auckland) for Outstanding Achievement Award, Derek Wilshere (Victoria University) for Coach of the Year, Lance Hohaia (Auckland University of Technology) for Maori Sportsperson of the Year, and Hamish Bond (Massey University Palmerston North) for Sportsperson of the Year.
As previous blues recipients have gone on to become famous New Zealand athletes we expect nothing less from this successful group of recipients!
