Aussies win first Test in Trans-Tasman Rowing

Australian Universities (represented by the University of Sydney) beat NZ Universities in all 3 races at this morning’s 1st Test of the 2005 Trans-Tasman Rowing competition at Ashburton. NZU are the defending champions from the 2004 series in Australia. The Aussies won the Men’s Eight by 1.5 lengths and the Women’s Eight by 2 lengths. The foggy conditions caused problems for both men’s lightweight coxless Four crews with the Sydney crew comfortable 3 lengths winners by the end. The 2nd Test is in Queenstown on Thursday 7 July and the 3rd Test in Dunedin on Saturday 9 July.
