AUT included Auckland reps from the U-19s and U-21s right up to NPC level.  Every girl in the team holds a netball scholarship from the university.

Starting out strong, AUT maintained a lead during the first half, but Te Wananga O Aotearoa fought hard and the second spell proved to be a survival of the fittest.

Uni Games sports coordinator, Ebony Tamati, said there were some outstanding players on display, including TWOA’s goal shoot, Pauline Craven who she said was “like a ballerina”.

“After defending two players, she managed to roll back and nearly intercept.  It was a beautiful display of athleticism,” she said.

AUT’s centre, Sally Greenwood also played exceptionally.

The heat was on during the second half, with AUT first to score, as they worked the ball down court with record speed.

TWOA  supporters tried to upset AUT’s goal shoot, Allie Lelievre, by yelling their cell numbers, but she said it was part of the fun.

“I actually really enjoyed it.  They were trying to put us off, but it just amped me up more,” she said.
