Blues Awards announced for 2005

USNZ today announced that 52 high performance athletes would receive prestigious NZU Blues Awards for 2005.

110 nominations were received for Blues awards for sporting and academic performance in 2005. The NZU Blues Panel agreed 52 Blues would be presented as well as 3 Outstanding Achievement Awards (for performances at a World University event) and 1 Distinguished Performance Award (for performance in a non-Blues sport).

7 Blues recipients were short-listed for the prestigious NZU Sportsperson of the Year Award - Lesley Rumball (netball), James Ryan, Anna Richards (both rugby union), Helen Norfolk (swimming), Jaimee Provan (hockey), George Bridgewater (rowing) and Debbie Tanner (triathlon).

3 Blues recipients were short-listed for the NZU Maori Sportsperson of the Year Award - Te Rina Taite (swimming), Donovan Rihari (touch) and Joline Henry (netball).

Winners of both awards will be announced at the conclusion of the 2006 NZU Awards Ceremony which will take place on Friday 14 July 2006 at Te Papa, Wellington.
