Canterbury & Lincoln take 1st day cricket honours

Home teams Canterbury & Lincoln both recorded wins on the first day of the 2006 NZ Universities Men’s Cricket Championship in Christchurch. Canterbury beat Massey Albany by 176 runs having scored a massive 343-9 off their 50 overs despite having slumped to 15-3 off the first 7 overs. James Colson (71) and Murray Yeoman (73) top-scored for Canterbury before Mike Smit took 3-21 as Albany were dismissed for 166. In the other day 1 match AUT struggled to 154 all out off 48.5 overs but Lincoln did not find their reply easy against some tight AUT bowling, reaching their target for the loss of 6 wickets. Massey Palmerston North and Victoria had 1st day byes.
