Eason leads Otago @ NZU Winter Games

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

University of Otago student, Alistair Eason was declared the Male Skier at the NZU Winter Games, which were held in Wanaka this past week. Eason (medical student), claimed first place in the Skier Slalom, Slopestyle and Big Air. He placed second in the Skier X and fourth in the Giant Slalom. By claiming top 5 positions in all the skiing events, it was an easy choice for the panel to select him as the top male skier at the NZU Winter Games.

Otago continued to clean up the awards when Elke Braun- Elwert was chosen the Female Skier of the NZU Winter Games. She claimed first place in the Skier X, second in the Giant Slalom and fourth in the Slalom.

Lee Rolands from AUT was declared the Male Boarder by claiming first in Boarder Giant Slalom and Boarder X. He placed second in the Boarder Slopestyle and fifth in the Boarder Big Air. By claiming top 5 positions in all Boarder events, he made sure that AUT did not go home empty handed and kept the Canterbury boarders at arm’s length.

Jenna Brown from Canterbury was awarded the Female Boarder of the Winter Games. She claimed first place in the Boarder X, Slopestyle and Big Air.

Elke Braun-Elwert and Jenna Brown represented New Zealand at the World University Winter Games in Austria earlier this year.
