Gymnast Holyoake wins gold

Mark Holyoake, a member of the NZ gymnastics team that competed at August’s World University Games in Turkey, has won gold and silver medals at the Valeri Liukin International in Dallas, Texas. Holyoake, an Auckland University student, took gold on the parallel bars and silver on the pommel horse to finish 7th overall in the senior men’s competition.
Holyoake came 46th in the All Round competition at the World University Games in Izmir and is currently ranked in the top 4 male gymnasts in the Commonwealth. He is a strong favourite for inclusion in the NZ Commonwealth Games team which will be announced by NZ Gymnastics in January 2006.
