Melbourne’s Monash Monash University held off the AUT Titans in a nail-biting finish to the Uni Games women’s basketball competition at the TSB Stadium yesterday.

Monash captain, Dayna Schinz, lead by example scoring freely throughout the game before finishing with a point’s tally of 17.
The game was full of falls and fouls, and the defense was spectacular from both teams.
The first half was tight with each team conceding points and the next answering back within seconds.
The third quarter was decisive with Monash stretching their advantage to 35-22.
In the fourth quarter the Ttitans came out with a roar, feeding from the subsequent cheers from crowd as they closed the gap to within four points with just 17 seconds to go.
A three-pointer from Philippa Connel brought the Titans with a point, with only a second to go but it wasn’t to be and the gold medal heads back across the Tasman.
