The Opening Ceremony of the 23rd World University Winter Games took place at Palasport Olimpico, which was built for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Click on Photo Gallery to see the Ceremony.
This famous Italian city has been working for the past 5 years to deliver what promises to be the best ever Games, especially with venues being used from the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Jesse Teat, the New Zealand team captain, who represented NZ at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics led the 15 strong Kiwi Squad into the Opening Ceremony. The participants saw a dazzling show with acrobats, dancers and music at the PalaOlimpico.
Over 2,600 competitors and officials from over 50 nations are attending the World University Winter Games. The Games were officially opened by Giovanna Capellano Nebiolo, President of the Organizing Committee.
