Otago University have dominated day 1 Giant Slalom events at Cardrona ski field.
Over 190 competitors took part in the ski and snowboard Giant Slalom events at the start of the Uni Snow Games 2006 at Cardrona ski field near Wanaka. Otago University competitors dominated the medal placings with their students winning both men’s and women’s GS ski competitions and the women’s Fruition-sponsored boarder GS.
Salt Lake 2002 Olympian Jesse Teat won the men’s ski GS ahead of fellow Otago student Alistair Eason. Sera Price comfortably took out the women’s Fruition boarder GS and Bridget Taylor led an Otago clean sweep in the women’s ski GS.
Massey Albany were also celebrating after national team member Phil Dominick won the men’s Fruition boarder GS ahead of defending champion Lee Rowlands from AUT. Graham Strickert gave Lincoln University something to shout about, winning the bronze medal.
