The New Zealand University Women’s Soccer Team have recorded successful results in their build up games in preparation for the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey next month. The highlight being a 1-1 draw with the New Zealand Elite Women’s Squad on Tuesday night. “The NZU Team dominated the possession and managed to come away with a well deserved one all draw in very trying conditions” said Team Manager Trudi Squire. “Emma Humphries from California State University Fullerton scored the goal for the NZU Team”.
The NZU Team built on their 1-1 draw with the National team to overcome local Auckland Club Lynn Avon. “Lynn Avon are currently leading the Auckland women’s competition” said Squire, “After a scoreless first half into a very strong wind the NZU girls came back to score four goals in the last 45mins”. Goals were scored by Jaime Hackett, Leanne Tiffen, Jen Kendall (all Otago) and Rebecca Tegg (AUT).
The Team will play Auckland club side Eastern Suburbs (Wednesday night at Albie Turner Park) before a repeat match against the New Zealand Elite squad on Thursday night at North Harbour Stadium.
Rebecca O’Neil (Victoria) has been named the Team Captain, with Tess Murphy (Otago) as vice captain.
