Teat to captain NZ team in Torino

Otago student Jesse Teat will carry the NZ flag into the opening ceremony of the World University Winter Games on 17 Jan Teat, a NZ Olympian in Salt Lake City in 2002, will lead the 6 ski racers and 5 snowboarders who were today selected by USNZ to compete at the event.

The Games are the second largest global snow and ice event after the Winter Olympics with 2,500 competitors and officials from 55 nations expected to participate. The Games will use the same facilities and Athletes’ Village as was used for last January’s Winter Olympics in Torino - the NZ team will be based in nearby Bardonecchia, venue for the ski racing and snowboarding competitions.

Otago University are well represented with all 6 of the ski racers and 2 out of 5 of the snowboarders. There are also 4 officials, headed by Chef de Mission Mike Forrestal, accompanying the team to Torino.
