Uni Games 2007 gets going

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Uni Games 2007 will be officially opened with a formal ceremony in the University of Canterbury Quad this evening at 7pm.

Circus performers will mingle with the crowds in the lead-up to the opening, which will begin with a spine-tingling kapa haka performance.

Stiltwalkers carrying the flags of the 10 universities competing for the coveted Shield will parade through the Quad during the night-time ceremony, which the public is welcome to attend.

The students will be competing in 28 sports over the three days of competition.

The first competition gets underway on Tuesday with the rowing eights from the individual universities competing for the prestigious Hebberley Shield and Tamaki Cup.

All 2150 competitors will also accredit on Tuesday from 9am.
