AUT and Auckland Uni take inaugural cross country skiing titles at Snow Farm.

The first ever NZ Universities Cross Country Skiing competition was held on Tuesday 29 August at Snow Farm, Wanaka, as part of the 2006 Uni Snow Games. 26 competitors took part in the 10km course for men and 5km for women.

AUT’s Olli Pere was the comfortable winner of the men’s race ahead of University of Canterbury’s Alex Gatland. In the women’s event, Auckland University’s Ingrid Vik won in the closest possible way (0.01sec) from Lincoln’s Lori Bradford with Otago’s Carla Braun-Elwert in third.

Across the valley at Cardrona, Otago’s Jesse Teat took the Volkl Men’s Ski Slalom title to add to his victory in Monday’s Giant Slalom. The 2002 Olympian was a narrow winner ahead of Canterbury’s Jai Lyons and fellow Otago student Alistair Eason.

In the Volkl Women’s Ski Slalom, Bridget Taylor (Otago) was a comfortable winner, also adding to her GS crown, with Sylvia Semper and Elke Braun-Elwert (both Otago) second and third.
