University Sport New Zealand is pleased to announce the following two new staff members and one role change.
Jessica Baldwin
Jessica Baldwin has been appointed as the new National Events Manager and joined USNZ in mid February. Jessica has had a long involvement with University Sport in New Zealand through competing, managing and running events and teams both at Otago University and AUT University. Jessica joined us after spending 18 months as the Sports Coordinator for Auckland Student Movement @ AUT (AuSM). At AuSM Jessica was the AuSM team manager for all University Sport New Zealand (USNZ) inter university events, coordinated regular sport and physical activity for students and staff and assisted in the development of sports clubs on campus. Jessica has also amongst other things worked administering two Fitness Clubs/Sports Centres.
Jessica has two BA’s (in Psychology and in Spanish) from Otago University, has studied Physical Education and has a certificate in Event Management from AUT.
Jessica was voted 2007 AuSM staff member of the year by AUT students.
Jessica can be contacted on jessica.baldwin(a)universitysport.org.nz or 021 917 298.
Philippa Gueorgieff
Philippa Gueorgieff has been appointed as the Events Coordinator. This new role for USNZ signifies the need for an increased resource in the events team. Philippa (Pip) is a recent graduate from Massey University Palmerston North where she gained a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Management). Pip has shown a high level of initiative in her previous work experience (Manawatu Rugby Union, World Junior men’s Squash championships, Cricket Wellington, Rebel Sport, Squash Gym, Wellington Racing Club) and like Jessica will be an asset to USNZ. Philippa started her role in mid February.
Pip can be contacted on pip.g(a)universitysport.org.nz or 021 870 212.
Arsel Aslam
USNZ is pleased to confirm a staffing positional change, Arsel Aslam has moved from the National Development Manager role to the newly formed Business Development Manager position.
At our October Board meeting, it was agreed, subject to funds being secured, to establish a sponsorship focussed position. The Business Development Manager is responsible for building and maintaining relationships for the material benefit and advancement of USNZ and our membership – namely through seeking and securing of cash and in-kind sponsorship and negotiating with stakeholders / funders to support the delivery of our events.
It is the desire of USNZ to replace the National Development Manager at some point this year. There are two caveats to this. Firstly – the existing National Development Manager job description needs a substantial re-write. Secondly – we need to secure the funding for the role.
Arsel’s contacts remain as follows arsel.aslam(a)universitysport.org.nz and 021 917 189.
