Saturday, April 1st, 2006

Defending NZU Cricket champions, Victoria University, scraped past a strong Canterbury side on the second day of the 2006 Champs in Christchurch. Victoria, playing their 1st match of the tourney, dismissed Canterbury for 191 with only Greg Pullar’s 47 gaining the hosts respectability - James Hill took 3-25. Victoria struggled in reply passing the target for the loss of 8 wickets with Hill making a determined 70. Mike Smit took 4-40 and Pullar 3-35 as Canterbury almost defended their small total. In the Pool B match AUT were comfortable 4 wicket winners over Massey Palmerston North who made 131 all out - AUT’s Dan Richards taking 4-27. AUT were 135-6 in reply despite James Barbour’s 3-32.
