Waikato University beat Cambridge in the annual Great Race on Saturday. Waikato won the annual men’s rowing eights contest against the Cambridge University senior crew in front of a large river bank crowd in Hamilton on Saturday 2 September to retain possession of the Harry Mahon Trophy. The Waikato eight won comfortably by four boat lengths on the 4.9km course along Waikato River; the crew attributed the success to Waikato’s powerful start.
