World Uni Beach Volleyball Champs - Team Named

University Sport NZ, in partnership with Volleyball NZ, will be sending two Women’s Beach Volleyball teams to compete at the World University Beach Volleyball Championships in Hamburg, Germany in July.

Team NZL1 comprises

• Susan Blundell – Victoria University
• Anna Scarlett – Massey University

NZL 2 comprises

• Shannen Bagge – UNC Asheville
  
• Hayley Griffiths – Massey University

Referee Mr Tim Cleaver and Coach/Manager Warren Smith (Massey University) will also travel with the team.

With both teams currently in Europe playing on the FIVB World Series, preparation will begin in earnest when the group comes together in Berlin 25 June – 1 July. Brandenburg State Beach Volleyball and the Olympic Training Centre Brandenburg will be hosting the team during the preparation phase where training facilities, accommodation and training groups will be made available to the team.

At the 2006 World University Beach Volleyball Champs in Cyprus, NZL 1 played 6 games, winning 3 and losing 3. All losses being by the minimum margin of 2 points in the tie-breakers! In 2008, the New Zealand teams will be looking to reverse those close decisions and make their way into the top 10 of the tournament.
