The first day of competition began with the Giant Slalom, which had two Kiwis competing, Jesse Teat and Michael-James Eyles.
Teat finished with a combined time of 1:57.38 from his 2 runs, finishing 48th from a field of 113.
Eyles finished with a combined time of 2:00.17, finishing 65th from the same field.
The winner of the Giant Slalom was Italian Aronne Pieruz with a combined time of 1:46.64, which gave Italy it’s first Gold Medal of the Universiade. Filip Trejbal from the Czech Republic won the Silver with a time of 1:49.52 and Adam Cole from the United States won the Bronze with a time of 1:49.91.
