About Uni Games

The New Zealand University Games is the Flagship Sporting event for Universities in New Zealand.

The first Uni Games was held in 1902 with 3 sports being contested - Tennis, Athletics and Debating. Now over 100 years later the Uni Games attract over 1000 participants in a variety of sports and is one of the largest annual multi-sport events in New Zealand.

Held around the Easter Break, the Uni Games is famous for providing a friendly yet competitive environment for competition, an atmosphere that has developed the Uni Games into NZ’s premier University Sports Event.

 

The Shield

The Shield is awarded to the Games Overall University Champion.

First awarded in 1923, The Shield is steeped in history and gives a record of the sporting prowess of the Universities of New Zealand and their ongoing mission to be the best. Otago University has the best record of the Universities winning the Games Shield an impressive 35 times.

 

 


2012 UNI GAMES

University Sport New Zealand is proud to announce that 2012 Uni Games will be hosted in Wellington City!

Wellington City provides first class facilities for the Games, with the recent opening of the new ASB Sports Centre, and the Wellington City Council’s initiative of several all-weather artificial turfs around the city.

The Games will begin with Accreditation day on Tuesday 10th April, with competitions running from Wednesday 11th to Friday 13th April.

USNZ will also be be holding an inter-campus "Amazing race" to finish off the Games which will lead into the Awards Presentation and Closing Ceremony on the Friday afternoon/evening.

Lawn Bowls

Ultimate
Volleyball
